Vegan beauty at Harvey Nichols Leeds
Q. Why did you decide to adopt a vegan beauty routine? A. ‘As a vegan, I wanted to fully embrace the lifestyle – from my nutrition through to my cosmetic and beauty routine. I am prone to dry, sensitive skin and I find vegan beauty products are generally kinder to my skin.’ Q. What are the biggest differences when using vegan products? A. ‘For me, it’s the results. Vegan beauty products are effective for dry, sensitive or acne-prone skin. Ingredients are natural and organic so my skin feels healthier and more radiant.’ Q. What are your five must-have vegan buys from Harvey Nichols? A. ‘I love the Aveda Invati Advanced Exfoliating Shampoo 200ml, £25. It cleanses, exfoliates and renews your scalp and removes any build-up of product residue that can affect healthy hair.’
‘The Tom Ford Soleil Bronzing Brush, £63, is made from synthetic hair. The soft, smooth bristles are specially designed to pick up a large amount of product to achieve that glowing look.’
‘Another favourite is Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer 30ml, £49. It’s silky, weightless and shields the skin with SPF15 protection. It also repels water to keep your makeup looking fresh all day long.’
‘Anti-wrinkle hexapeptides in this Chantecaille Bio Lifting Mask 50ml, £144, help to reduce the depth of wrinkles while retaining moisture, giving you that smooth and hydrated look.’
‘I use Fenty Beauty Pro Filt’r Soft Matte Longwear Foundation 32ml, £26. The oil-free formula gives skin an instantly smooth, pore-diffused, shine-free finish that easily builds from medium to full coverage.’
Q. Talk us through your daily vegan beauty routine. A. ‘Preparation is key. I have sensitive skin so I keep my routine simple and try to embrace a more natural look. Exfoliating once a week achieves healthy, glowing skin with daily cleansing. A good moisturiser keeps my skin looking radiant, especially in the winter months when my skin is more prone to dryness. ‘Using a good primer before applying my Fenty Beauty foundation also creates a smooth base and minimises imperfections in the skin. Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer has an oil-free formula so it can be used on all skin types, even on sensitive blemish-prone skin.’ Q. What about makeup brushes? A. ‘A growing number of brands are now embracing vegan alternatives, which allows us to make choices about the products we are using throughout our skincare and beauty routine. ‘Hourglass brushes are ultra-soft, synthetic and PETA approved, providing an alternative for vegans and for those with allergies to animal hair. Synthetic makeup brushes don’t have a cuticle, making them easy to use with both dry and cream-based products.’ Q. Do you have any other tips when shopping for vegan products? A. ‘I like to research, explore and play around with products to discover the brands and products that suit my skin. Visit the Harvey Nichols store to ask the experts for their advice – our Beauty Advisors are always on hand to share their knowledge and expertise to find the right product that works for you.’
