GANT TAKES US STATESIDE WITH NEW SS23 COLLECTION
The GANT Spring/Summer 2023 collection is an updated take on GANT’s nautical heritage. The collection spans early spring to the heat of high summer, taking inspiration from maritime prints and sun-bleached pastels.
“With roots from the East coast of the US, close to the shores of the Atlantic, we wanted to present an updated take on our heritage. The collection takes inspiration from archive pieces, with maritime references and a nod to the primary colours that adorn the Nantucket boat sails. Together with American fashion muses from the 1980s, these elements lay the foundation for the collection” says Christopher Bastin, GANT’s Creative Director.
For women, the collection begins with light layered silhouettes, featuring summer textures and nautical stripes. Key pieces include a cotton trench, wide chinos and a new take on a cropped jacket, all contemporary wardrobe staples. Prints are watercolour, with whites and blues setting the tone for the collection, mixed with soft sailing boat prints, adorned on luxurious silk shirts.
Moving into the summer months, Atlantic inspired pastels and bold floral prints are introduced alongside deconstructed shapes. Loose caftans, staple linen pieces and knitted dresses sit alongside beach-ready rattan accessories. In summer, colors evolve to become bolder taking reference from the late 1970s and 1980s. Strong pink, apricot and yellow pops throughout, with colorful sunflower print and madras checks enhancing classic dresses and two pieces. To accessorize, oversized 1970s inspired sunglasses and printed silk scarves complete the season’s look.
The men’s SS23 collection pays tribute to yacht clubs in the 1980s, a continuation of the maritime focus present in womenswear, dialed up with a more urban approach. Key items such as oxford shirts, modern tailoring and loungewear embody the season’s premium essentials in classic color combinations and Breton stripes. This classical expression is combined with bold shapes and colors, with washed out neons, pinks, yellows and sage green contrasting against the more neutral base tones.
The latter half of the collection is inspired by the vacation spirit of the 1980s, with fluid shirts, relaxed summer shorts and classic wayfarers taking you from beach to cocktail hour. Throughout the collection, sunflower graphics in rich shades of yellow, are paired with retro stripes and tonal checks, amidst more casual linen tailoring. Key outerwear pieces are the satin souvenir jacket and packable windbreaker, adding a collegiate and activewear twist. Meanwhile, bucket hats, caps and tube socks complete the mood, in a nostalgic nod to summers by the sea.
